As some of you may know, we are about to release our first e-book.

In going through the creation process, we realized that there are some key steps that you should follow to ensure your product provides real value.

1. Select a topic that you have real expertise on.

2. Break down your book into easy to follow steps. You need to assume that your reader knows a lot less than you, so be as detailed as possible.

3. Provide well thought out graphics to illustrate the results of taking each step, so your reader knows he/she is doing the step correctly and can verify this by referencing your graphic.

4. When you think the book is finished, send it to a friend or business associate who has limited or no knowledge of your how to subject, and have him/her follow the book to see if there may be something you have omitted or need to clarify. That person will be able to help you fine tune your e-book, thereby creating great content for your reader.

5. Add or edit your content to reflect any feedback, then repeat steps 4 and 5 until your “beta tester” can go through all the steps with the desired outcome.

If you are planning on charging for your e-book in the future, you may want to offer it as a giveaway for a limited time and in exchange for giving your product away, ask for feedback and testimonials. This will create some buzz about your product as well as getting valuable information that you can implement as revisions to your book if needed.

When we are writing e-books, especially those that explain how to do something, we often forget that our readers may have little or no knowledge of our subject. K.I.S.S. = Keep It Simple Sweetheart icon smile 5 Simple Steps to Creating a How To E book
